RPG Group Meeting 7

October 28, 2008 8:00pm – 10:30pm

Hicks Library

Jim Vogel, Andrew Greeson, Aswin Selvaraj

The goal of the meeting was to begin work on the PowerPoint presentation.

We worked together to further revise the rough draft that was peer edited the Friday before. We had troubles staying in the 1800 word limit. Since we were finished with editing we decided to work on the PowerPoint to get ahead in the schedule. After successfully typing up our slides individually, we made sure to meet again that Wednesday to put everything together.

For our next meeting we plan to meet October 29, 2008 at the Beering lab after class to finalize the PowerPoint and edit necessary parts of the paper.

The goal of the meeting was to revise and finish the final draft and begin working on the power point presnetation.

We worked together to revise the rough draft that was peer edited the Friday before.  We had troubles adding more content that was needed while staying within the limitations of the 1800 word limit.  The final draft was completed; however we did not begin the PowerPoint presentation.  We decided to meet on Tuesday night to work on the PowerPoint.

For our next meeting we plan to meet Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at the Stewart Center Computer lab 8:00pm to start on our power point presentation.

The goal of the meeting was to finish the rough draft and mesh all of our parts into one contiguous paper.

We worked together to put all three of our ideas together to form the rough draft of the white paper that is due on Wednesday October 22.  The draft came together nicely and we managed to keep the draft within the word limits.

For our next meeting we plan to meet Sunday, October 26, 2008 at the Hicks Library at 3:00pm to make revisions of our rough draft and start on our power point presentation.

Working Entry Week 3

a) The research portion of the project is done, and I have begun working on the actual writing of the white paper.

b) This week I worked about 5 hours in a group setting from working on my portion of the rough draft as well as working on making the entire draft mesh together.  Along with the 5 hours of group work I have spent about 3 hours outside of the meeting times working on my portion of the paper.

RPG Group Meeting 4

October 17, 2008 5:00pm – 7:00pm

Beering Lab

Jim Vogel, Andrew Greeson, Aswin Selvaraj

The goal of the meeting was to work on the rough draft and mesh all of our parts into one contiguous paper.

We were given extra class time to work on our papers, so we worked together to put all three of our ideas together to form the rough draft. The draft began to come together nicely.  We worked on revising some of the parts that needed to be quoted and rephrased.  We also worked our parts together to start forming a single paper that meshed well together.

For our next meeting we plan to meet Sunday, October 19, 2008 at the Hicks Library at 3:00pm to mesh the work we have done individually and finish the rough draft of the white paper that is due Wednesday, October 22.

RPG Group Meeting 3

October 15, 2008 7:56pm – 10:15pm

Hicks Library

Aswin Selvaraj, Jim Vogel, Andrew Greeson

The goal of the meeting was to get at least two pages of the rough draft done by the end of the night as well as bring together our research.

We discussed and started the different parts of the paper and worked on each section individually after sharing our research findings and dispersing them among our group.  The paper was divided into the separate parts as follows:

Aswin:

History and of RPGs

Affected Players of RPGs

Neglect of the company

Jim:

Problems with the success of the game

Research findings

Discussing the findings and what they mean

Andrew:

3 Probable solutions

Reflections

We created between 250 and 400 words for each of our parts and decided to call it quits for the night.

For our next meeting we plan to meet Sunday, October 19, 2008 at the Hicks Library at 3:00pm to mesh the work we have done individually and finish the rough draft of the white paper that is due Wednesday, October 22.

Working Entry Week 1

a) I have done about three hours of research on the addictive nature of RPGs.  Some of the sites that I have found very informational are below:

http://www.blizzard.com/us/press/080915.html

http://library.cqpress.com/cqresearcher/document.php?id=cqresrre20061110...

I have also researched such games as second life, but did not save the links.

RPG Group Meeting 1

October 6, 2008 4:32pm – 5:30pm

Hicks Library

Aswin Selvaraj, Jim Vogel, Andrew Greeson

The goal of the meeting was to define the problems and possible solutions of our topic, and then assign people to the different areas.

We discussed the different parts of our memo and who would be writing each section.  We then discussed how we were going to proceed with our subject matter and decided to work towards the main issures plagueing game users from addiction to the game to lack of social life and well being.  We made the decision to divide the parts of the group as follows:

Aswin:

History and need of RPGs

Evolution of earlier forms to today’s RPGs

Types of RPGs

Jim:

Issues with the way s RPGs are being used today

Users missing out on actual life

Issues with the development of the games

Games are made to be drawn out for months, years…

Issues with monitoring game play

Actively participating, but not monitoring abuse

Andrew:

Probable solutions of the addictive nature

Recommendations

For our next meeting we plan to meet Thursday, October 9, 2008at the Hicks Library at 7:30pm to mesh the work we have done individually for the memo that is due on Friday.
