A.    I am applying for the position of Mechanical Engineering Technician available at your Columbus Technical Center in Columbus, IN.

B.     I have found this position through the online job ad database Monster.com.

C.     Cummins Incorporated has been the employer of my grandfather for my lifetime, and I have always thought of what a great experience it would be to keep Cummins in the family. 

D.    My studies at Purdue University have prepared me to have a legitimate chance to compete for this job, and I believe that I am very well qualified to do so.

II.  Body – Qualifications

A.    Through the last four years I have been attending Purdue University and studying Industrial Management, with a Systems Engineering minor.

B.     I have much experience in computer aided design programs as well as the C-language.

1.      CAD, CATIA, Inventor, Python, etc.

C.     My works in engineering and physics courses at Purdue have helped me in many ways.

1.      Teamwork

2.      Time management

3.      Commitment

4.      Data gathering and analysis

5.      Hard work ethic

D.    I am also quite well rounded in the financial and managerial aspects of business.

1.      Purdue courses include: micro and macro economics, financial and business accounting, and employee management.

E.     Although I do not meet all of this job’s requirements, I do believe that you will not be disappointed with what credentials I do have and the work ethic that I have been improving on my whole life.

III.  Conclusion

A.    I am excited about the chance I have been given to compete for this position as Mechanical Engineering Technician for Cummins Incorporated.

Very well-organized. This is definitely a good start. However, I think II.E. should be more carefully phrased for the cover letter.
