1.      Explain where I found out about the job opening. (I recently found your job advertisement on Monster.com.)

2.      Say what position I am applying for.  (You need for a mid-level security professional caught my attention and I would like to apply.)

II.            Briefly describe relevant background information such as skills, education, and experience.

1.      Describe my current educational background.  (I am currently a Jr. at Purdue University and will graduate in May 2010 with an undergraduate degree in Computer Information Technology.)

a.       Quickly describe skills that were learned through courses relevant to the occupation that I am applying for. (I have taken several networking classes at Purdue University that focuses on several important security related issues found in a typical enterprise environments.  These network security concepts that I posses could be very beneficial to larger organizations that currently employ the services you offer.)

b.      Tell about courses that I am planning to take in the future that bear relevance to the occupation. (I continually strive to better myself through continued education and research in computer security related fields.  I plan to attain my master’s degree in computer science with a specialization in the area of computer forensics.)

2.      Describe work experience that pertains to the position that I am applying for. (I have worked for Midwest Technical Services for six years and have leaned many skills that could benefit your organization.)

a.       Describe skills and how the organization could benefit. (In my past position at Midwest Technical Services, I honed my computer skills as well as my problem solving skills.)

III.            Thank the organization for their consideration and repeat contact information. (I would like to thank you for considering me for this position at Man-Tech.)
