Topic Proposal: Illegal Music Downloading and How It Helps Artists

Illegal music downloading has been a problem around the world since the days of Napster.  The majority of the complaints about downloading music illegally come directly from the artists or from the record label.  The artists and record labels both claim they are losing major profits due to piracy.  While the record labels lose money from sales, the artists do not lose that much.  Artists make the majority of their money from appearances and performances.  I believe that allowing music to be downloaded illegally helps the artists.  The internet has allowed more access than ever to music which in turn creates more interest in a band.
