Censorship Group: Meeting 2

Our group met in class on Wednesday February 25 and the whole group (John, Hu, Brett, and Liz) were all present.  The goal of this meeting was to design an informal memo addressing the objects of our white paper as well as divide up research and set up a rough timeline for completion of goals.

We decided that addressing the proposal to the government of China was difficult and probably would not be well-received so instead chose to target it to Amnesty International and their interests in the human rights issue in China which includes the issue of censorship.

Research topics were divided as following:  Brett-find information about the criteria and methods China uses to block websites, Hu-find specific cases of human rights violations in relation to internet censorhship, Liz-research into the response of the Chinese government and its people to a gradual reduction of censorship, and John-research into the response to an immediate removal of censorship.

During the next week and a half each member will conduct their research and write preliminary summaries and accounts of their findings to be brought to the next group meeting during the week of March 9th to be combined and expanded upon as the first step toward writing the rought draft of the white paper.
