Project Update - Cyberbullying

My group met this week on Monday and Tuesday to write the rough draft of our white paper on cyberbullying.  We all met in a computer lab on Monday and wrote approximately half of our paper.  We decided on a format and began writing.  Tuesday we met in a computer lab again and finished the paper.  We all wrote different sections and we each put input into all aspects of the paper.  We are meeting again this coming Monday to work on the revisions that were suggested to us and complete our final draft.  We will also discuss the plans for our presentation and decide who will be presenting each section.

Weekly Research Blog

This week my main task was to finalize my first draft of the whitepaper. I have already created a graphic to explain how the chat system I developed would work. In addition, I got a screenshot of a similar system in use on Purdue's MEL Library's website. I also did some additional research on the skype api and how it can be used to make a voice chat program in the website. I was able to see how to use Python or C# to develop a skype web application. I was mainly concerned with these two languages because they are the most likely languages that Buy.com is actually developed in.

After I had done more thorough research, I was able to write a more complete and accurate first draft, which will lead to a better final paper.

Facebook research data found

I have done some searching online for tutorials to use for an example for our facebook paper. I was able to find a tutorial for ITAP that seems to be a good example for what we need to use and I can use the template for our project and just adjust it to make it fit for facebook.

I also found a tutorial on the Purdue Library site. I can use some of this information also and make it fit our paper.

I will search for some more articles for the older age segments and professionals who use facebook to stay in touch with co workers and old school mates.

Meeting 2: Rough draft and More Articles

I have researched the topic of addiction in online gaming to further find details about the user's behavior. I was able to find 4 articles in all, each highlighting a different demographic of interest who were all playing the game our group was writing about. After this I finished the rough draft of my part which included, the Discussion and the Conclusion parts of the White Paper. I am to detail the solutions we are to present to the game company and further expand on how they are effective and what issues may they present if implemented.

Facebook online tutorial

Over the break I was able to find a couple of articles talking about online tutorials and how they can be effective. One of the articlas was called Best Practices in Online Customer Training. This spoke about howe to build a profitable online customer training business. It went over elearning technologies mostluy from an employers perspective.

Business drivers, business models, and customer training as a profit center. Three basic busines models. Customer trianing as a slaes and marketing tool. Customer training to reduce support and service costs. Customer training is a product, not just education.

These are just a few different areas of a tutorial to consider.

Blog #1

Last week, the group met and discussed different options for E-commerce and the topics we could tackle. We decided on Fraud with the proposal of different areas of Fraud prevention leading us to choose the topic.

I gave input on various preventative measures that could be used, in particularly the Account Varification method.

Log #2

So this week my group is in the process of researching our topic. I personally have been researching the area of Account Varification for users on E-bay.

I have been searching various sites to try and find a viable option for account varification, and have been searching for the best option to take and use in terms of E-bay.

I will compile my research and break it down for our next group meeting.

Bullying on AIM blog post

Our group met today during and after class to discuss our project.  We decided to change the direction of our project slightly.  We chose to do our project on cyberbullying using AOL Instant Messanger (AIM) instead of Facebook, because you can only chat with your friends on Facebook, and you can chat with anyone on AIM.  Our goal for this meeting was to delegate what each person needed to research and decide on a time and place to meet to start the rough draft of our paper.  We decided that our group would meet on Monday, October 20th to write the draft of our paper.  In the meantime, we are each going to research a specific area of the problem and come on Monday ready to contribute our portion to the paper.  Ben will research specific cases of cyberbullying using AIM, Dan will research any current lawsuits, Kelly will look up what the privacy settings are for AIM and their chat rooms, and Lauren will research how AIM deals with complaints and issues.  Our whole group will think of possible solutions to stop cyberbullying.

Facebook Research

I was able to find a few articles online that talked about our issues with facebook. some of the issues they discussed were:

A father who recently started using Facebook enjoys using it for professional use for work and talking to his coleagues. While his daughter does not like him using Facebook because she is embarrassed that her dad uses the same site to chat.

I also found some demographic material on the age groups who use Facebook and it also discusses which group is growing the most as users.

"Facebook Age Distribution"

O'reilly Radar, "Facebook Growth By Age Group: Share of College - Users is Declining."

I want to show that Facebook need to show more privacy measures, learning tools, tips for privacy, and Facebook need a tutorial for beginning users to use and learn about all of the different types of privacy setting that can be used to keep users safe ou there.

Maybe use pop up menues or something like that for new users to learn from or everyone to use.

A way to select privacy settings in a more user friendly manner for the non teck people out there.

Work Blog

I aided the group in composing the memo into one concise document. I researched on how our solution was feasible or not.  I set up and managed group meetings. I also did further reading and research on the link provided by my group members.
