RPG Group Meeting 1

October 6, 2008 4:32pm – 5:30pm

Hicks Library

Aswin Selvaraj, Jim Vogel, Andrew Greeson

The goal of the meeting was to define the problems and possible solutions of our topic, and then assign people to the different areas.

We discussed the different parts of our memo and who would be writing each section.  We then discussed how we were going to proceed with our subject matter and decided to work towards the main issures plagueing game users from addiction to the game to lack of social life and well being.  We made the decision to divide the parts of the group as follows:

Aswin:

History and need of RPGs

Evolution of earlier forms to today’s RPGs

Types of RPGs

Jim:

Issues with the way s RPGs are being used today

Users missing out on actual life

Issues with the development of the games

Games are made to be drawn out for months, years…

Issues with monitoring game play

Actively participating, but not monitoring abuse

Andrew:

Probable solutions of the addictive nature

Recommendations

For our next meeting we plan to meet Thursday, October 9, 2008at the Hicks Library at 7:30pm to mesh the work we have done individually for the memo that is due on Friday.

Facebook Group: Meeting 1

Our group met at the Union on Monday, October 6 at 1:30.  All members of the group were there: Sam, Suranjani, Curtis, and Christine.  The goal of the meeting was to discuss about our topic and possibly delegate who would be in charge of different parts of the memo.  We discussed some of the things Facebook users can do to lower the possibility of their professional reputation being ruined.  Some of the things users can do are limit the information they provide on their Facebook profile, limit the friends that you have on your account, do not save your password to your Facebook account, and you could possibly deactivate your Facebook account during your job search.  At the meeting we decided that Suranjani would come up with reasons why people should follow our advice.  Curtis and Christine researched for some specific instances were Facebook ruined chances for people to get possible jobs.  I was given the task to write the blog.  At the next meeting our plans are to work on the structure of the memo and possibly delegate different sections of the memo out to different group members.  Here are some of the persuasive reasons Suranjani came up with and also some of the resources that Curtis and Christine found.

·         Credibility and reliability of employee will be questioned.

·         Major risk to potential career graph

·         This final check could be the only reason to one losing a job to another in an extremely        competitive world.

E-commerce group two, meeting one.

We meet in our normal classroom at 12:30 on tuesday. Kyle Hummel, Ricardo Santizo, and Agnes Blachut were there. The goal of the meeting was to narrow our topic and to complete and update our blog. We discussed the information we had researched and decided to write about the topic of "E-commerce Fraud". We decided we needed a lot more research, so we would each investigate on our own and then meet before friday to complete our memo. Among the delegated tasks, Ricardo Santizo became the official blog person. We also decided that Agnes Blachut will be the official "memo person", we will each give her all our information, and she will collect it and write a rough draft. For next meeting, we hope to have a lot more information on the topics of "Fraud Background Information", and "Solutions to E-commerce fraud". We would also like to investigate about examples and cases where E-commerce fraud has been present.

Facebook/Myspace Privacy Meeting

Our group met today, Tuesday October 7, to discuss our White Paper Project.   Nicole, Kavika and Stephanie were all there.   We are going to address the privacy issues within Facebook and Myspace.  Mainly how sexual predators can use these sites to their advantage and track down victims.  People are not aware that their personal information is leaked when they join groups and add applications.  For our next meeting we are going to think of specific problems that people make with their profile accounts and how to change these mistakes so personal information isn’t as easily accessed.   This will have a large focus on learning more about the privacy settings that both websites offer.  We will get together and finish our proposal on Wednesday afternoon.

My Contribution for week 1

Tonight I did research in the library database and retrieved three articles related to our topic of Facebook.  One article talks about how Facebook can be good for professionals if used the correct way.  This relates because it is one of our solutions and ideas presented in the white paper.  The second article I found also talks about it positiviely in the professional light.  The third article I found, however, warns high school students about Facebook, and how college admissions are now looking at applicants and judging them upon what they find.  Some admit to not admitting a student if they don't like the looks of their Facebook.  I plan to use these articles to present to my group on Wednesday after I highlight the important points.

*I had to do this in the library in Stewart, their computers are weird and I am having trouble with mine, therefore I could not post the links, it would not let me.  I can show you the printed versions if need be.

Facebook: Meeting 1

We met in the classroom at the scheduled classtime of 4:30.  All members were present (Silvia, Eric, Chris, and Ashley.) The goal of our meeting was to determine what specific problem to discuss with facebook, and determine the three solutions we will write about. We discussed the privacy issues regarding separating facebook into underage, and over 18 settings, professional, college and personal use, and also making the privacy settings more known to users.  These are the three solutions we decided upon.  For the next meeting, we plan to finish the proposal memo, and have done more research.  We also want to create a survey for students to provide information regarding our research.
