Purdue Libraries: Individual Blog 3

Yesterday I edited the documentation for the user study, which was held last night at 7.  I made a few formatting changes based on the feedback we received from the peer review and added a few "helpful hints".  Today I brainstormed some ideas that will make the tutorial more useful to the general user population and thought of some ways to adapt our documentation based on the feedback from our user study.

I edited our rough draft.  It took about an hour to add in new screenshots and make sure the format wasn't thrown off.

I worked on our final draft tonight. I looked at out docx and followed some of the recommendations of our peer review. Some of the simple images were removed. I made sure all the image sizes wer fairly consistent throughout the paper. All of the links work. If there is a link to another section, that section usually begins at the top of a page. When I finished. I emailed a pdf and docx version of the draft to my teammates, uploaded the pdf to our Google doc page, and uploaded both files to out Google sites page.

Tonight was our usability study. Overall i think this was a success. Most of our feedback was very positive and the feedback that wasn't will help us improve our documentation. Most of the testers reported that they were more confident searching for e-articles than they were before working through out tutorial.

I made all the arrows consistant throughout the rest of the document after we decided on a more uniform arrow size. The font was also adjusted according to a group concensus. I made sure to remind my participants of the time and place of study.

Purdue Library User Documentation Group Blog #4

All the members of our group were present for this meeting. We reserved Matthew 301, an iTap lab from 6:30 to 7:30 pm for our group user study. We had the participants sign onto the computer while they filled out a pre-survey. We timed the individual participants while they were doing the task. Earlier today, we made final changes to the rough draft in accordance to feedback from the Professor and the peer reviews. We are going to take the gathered surveys and review the results for imporvements of the final draft

So far i have taken the original document we made and edited it to the format that was brought to class on Wednesday. Then I took the document after the other group edited it and made unclear pictures bigger (I kind of had the whole picture then the main part of the pic zoomed into). Also I changed the document so that there were more commanding bullets and the different sections were clearly distinct. After the people finish today I will once again fix the document. Jordan can most likely help the most with this

Individual Blog: Linux documentation group - 4/24/09

This week we spent the majority of our working time polishing our rough draft. We also were able to put together all of the images and edit them to formally fit our document. I personally have been working on the usability study parameters, figuring how the study will be conducted and what will be ased at the conclusion. I have also written the questionnaire we will be using at the conclusion of the study.

We're doing our testing tonight, and we got back our whitepaper.  We did well.  Testing is all set up and the forms and things are almost perfected.  We've got to brush up the last parts of the documentation.  Very tired.

The documentation will hopefully only need minor revisions after usability testing.  After usability testing is completed, we will report on that data and add it.  Nate and JJ live closer to campus than I do and will have users test the documentation at their residences.  Problems will noted, if any, and adjustments can be made to the documentation if necessary.  The report on the usability testing will complete the final draft for next week.
